By offering a 1-row, 2-row and 4-row machine, KUHN offers an effective and versatile range of 3-point linkage mounted maize choppers.
The power transmission of all maize choppers runs via the PTO drive shaft, V-belts and gears. This requires minimum maintenance. Several well-thought out design features make daily inspection, maintenance and cleaning easy and simple.
The 2-row MC 90 S TWIN has an extra overall weight of only 15% compared to the single-row MC 90 S. Therefore, it makes full use of the available tractor power, but leaves 50% less marks in the field. Power requirement is minimal: 55 HP is sufficient for chopping two rows in one single pass.
Fitted with two chopping units and two feeding systems, the 4-row MC 180 S QUATTRO is the ideal machine for professional users operating tractors from 90 HP upwards. The chopper meets the demands for high work rates without a massive investment in self-propelled machinery. All aspects have been designed to make your harvest safer and more efficient. The MC 180 S QUATTRO is equally suited for front and rear mounting.

Cutting discs of a KUHN Maize Chopper

Clean cutting

Clean cutting of the maize stems is the basis for an even intake. The KUHN system is tolerant of weeds and has a self-cleaning function. The adjustable counter knife between the discs maintains optimal cutting quality at any time. The cutting discs are hardened and have a special protective coating for maximum wear resistance.

Feed system

Two feed drums and a smooth and a toothed roller ensure that the crop flows in a straight line to the flywheel. This ensures that stems, cobs and husks are cut at right angles, to precisely the preset length of chop. The result is a homogeneous crop structure for top quality silage. An easily accessible shear bolt protects the maize chopper intake chain from damage whenever the feed drums are blocked by a foreign object.

Consistent chopping length

The layout of the 4-drum intake system driven via the chopper wheel guarantees a consistent chopping length, independent of forward or PTO-speed. The MC Series maize choppers are adjusted to the most popular chop length of 4 mm. By installing a different drive gear, setting a chopping length of 6 mm is possible. To improve the opening of the kernels, the filling plate in the lower distribution housing can be replaced with a cracker plate.
The intake system driven via the chopper wheel guarantees a consistent chop length.

The power transmission runs via the PTO drive shaft and V-belts directly driving the chopping wheel. Thanks to the lateral adjustment (21 cm) of the lower hitch bar, the maize chopper fits a wide range of tractors with widths up to 240 cm.

Sturdy flywheel

MC choppers feature a sturdy flywheel for an energy saving chopping operation. As a result of the special positioning of the chopping knives in relation to the counter knife, the angle of cut runs from outside to inside. The incoming maize stems are cut in one straight, single line and transported with minimum power requirement.

Steel chute

The optimised steel chute provides low friction crop flow which can be controlled via adjustment flaps. Because of the low friction, the crop comes out of the chute with high velocity for even loading into the trailer.

Easy inspection and maintenance

For maintenance, the complete chopping unit can pivot backwards.

Inspection and maintenance

Inspection and maintenance on the KUHN MC maize choppers could not be easier or simpler. Daily routine maintenance is limited to the lubrication of two easily accessible grease nipples on the chopping wheel and the chain drive of the MC 90 S TWIN system.
Inspecting the chopping wheel can be easily done by lifting the inspection door on the side of the chopper. The complete chopping unit can pivot backwards for easier chopping wheel a feeding drum maintenance.
